Contacting the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council

The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council regulates and investigates professional misconduct by marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, psychologists, psychological associates, social workers, and licensed specialists in school psychology. Not every concern or dispute involves professional misconduct; however, the Executive Council can provide more information about the complaint process. You may contact the board at any time. Doing so will not affect your counseling services.If you believe your counselor has violated professional or legal standards that govern counseling practices in Texas, you may report your concerns to:

Requesting Mental Health Records

Clients have the right to request copies of their mental health records. Requests must be made in writing, clearly specify the information being requested, and include the client’s signature.

 

In accordance with applicable regulations, mental health providers may take up to fifteen (15) days to review and respond to a records request. A $25 administrative fee is required at the time the request is submitted.
